Just wanted to relay a story to you about an injured airline worker who we saw in the office. He had a herniated disc at L5. Flexion made his pain worse and extension mitigated the pain. Sitting caused pain and he was relieved with standing. Anyway, they sent him back to work light duty which involved sitting 8 hours a day. Of course, he worsened. I showed him your vertebral model which really sunk in. He just got it. He asked if he could bring it to his work comp hearing. I was hesitant as I did not want to lend it out, but he assured me he would bring it back. At the hearing, he said everyone in the room passed it around and he was able to demonstrate why sitting and flexion makes disc pain worse. They had never seen anything like it. Completely a new concept to them. They approved another 2 weeks out of work and when he returns, they will accommodate him in whatever way he necessitates. They may want me to come in and speak to them about preventing disc injuries. We have been using your models since the very beginning. They are absolutely invaluable in our clinic.
